About Dr. Martin

After obtaining her Bachelor of Science (Biology) from the University of Ottawa, Carole worked as a research marine and fisheries biologist and as an environmental policy analyst for the federal government.  She developed multiple “mystery” illnesses during and after a 2-year stay in Thailand,  and was eventually diagnosed with two autoimmune conditions.

Even though the main symptoms of these conditions resolved after a year on anti-inflammatories, Carole still faced insomnia, fatigue, joint and muscle pain, brain fog, heart palpitations and double vision - all symptoms that collectively pointed towards a diagnosis of either fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), which is now known as environmentally acquired illness or chronic inflammatory illness.

As conventional medicine could only provide symptom relief, Carole began to look into alternative and complementary medicine. It took many years of seeing numerous health care practitioners to discover the root causes of her chronic symptoms, which included mold toxicity and “stealth” microbial infections (including Lyme’s disease and its co-infections), as well as digestive issues. She was so inspired by the natural way of restoring health, including its message of self-empowerment, that she left her federal government position and became a chiropractor.

I became vigilant about my diet, made drastic life changes to reduce stress, and diligently practiced Taoist Tai Chi and meditation.  I continued to experiment with different healing modalities. It’s been a long journey, but I’m happy to say that my health has rebounded.  I am now applying what I have learned into my clinical practice. My journey is not over and I expect that I will be a lifelong learner about health and healing.
